Last Planner System® - Pull Planning

For people who are joining an LPS® team and need to get up to speed and be able to talk the talk and do the walk. Appropriate for the pre-construction and design phases, as well as construction, and a needed foundation for superintendents, foremen, project managers, project engineers, project executives.

COURSE 1A – Foundations: Levels of The Last Planner System®

Last Planner System® - Pull Planning

Whether you’re an experienced user or new to the system, learn to use or perfect this revolutionary planning and scheduling method which raises schedule predictability of design and construction teams from the industry average of 54% to over 80%-90%. Used by most of the most effective and successful construction companies in the ENR 100, an increasing number of designer and design-builders, and hundreds of small to medium companies throughout the country and the world. For General and Trade Contractors, Designers and Owners.

What you'll learn

What you'll learn

How to make sure you plan thoroughly and not “just” schedule.

What’s Working and Not Working in current methods of scheduling.

How the Last Planner System® was developed for design and construction, and why it is so well suited for it.

What the 3 Levels of the Last Planner System® are and how they fit together to increase work reliability.

Why pulling backwards helps us create a better plan.

What the basic elements of the Last Planner System® are, and why it is more than “just post-its on a wall”.

Description

Description

Much of the waste in design and construction comes from insufficient planning. A Construction Industry Institute study reveals that 57% of construction labor is wasted, often due to poorly coordinated trade handoffs and a lack of timely removal off constraints like RFI answers, timely material deliveries, etc.

But the problems begin way back in Pre-Construction, when excessively-detailed scheduling gets in the way of clear and collaborative Milestone Planning and often ends up in less-than-optimal construction sequencing and inaccurate estimates of durations, just to force a schedule to the owner’s timeline.

These foundational videos, action plans and accompanying reference documents introduce a collaborative way to achieve your design and construction goals at every stage of the process. The Last Planner System® was developed by Glenn Ballard and Greg Howell over a 20-year period of studying construction team inefficiencies and approaches to overcoming the waste built into our current processes. Now practiced by the best teams around the world, Last Planner® has evolved into a collaborative, intelligent approach to planning and scheduling unmatched by other methods.

In 9 short 3-9 minute videos coupled with immediately-usable Action Plans, experienced construction leaders we will help you understand the proven benefits of Last Planner® including shorter schedules, increased productivity, greater process transparency, improved design and build organization, better collaboration, communication and understanding. From the first day of Pre-Con to the last day of Trade Contractor Punchlist, The Last Planner System® is the gateway to Lean behaviors and addresses key components not working in Critical Path Method scheduling.

Where do we use these methods? Anywhere we need to plan aspects of work in design and construction including buildings, civil engineering, infrastructure, ship building, oil/gas and mining projects, and plant start-ups/shut-downs. No project is too large or too small.
